Modern Dictators……

4 Feb

‘There are powerful forces at work in the world whose motives I cannot begin to comprehend.  However, there are fundamental violations of human rights being conducted all over the world by ‘democratic’ western governments on an ever increasing basis.  Proclaiming moral superiority they appear to waging a war against groups who practice a different way of life to theirs but, most worryingly, the boundaries are becoming increasingly blurred as to who the enemy is and none have a democratic mandate to fight this war.  Whatever the intended outcome is, it is being sought with more vigour than the battle against communism in mid to late twentieth century and, in the so called ‘war on terror’ against the ‘axis of evil’, I wonder who has the most to fear and who will be the victims of its consequences?’……

Conspiracy Theories……

The truth is information which is factual making any question asked thereof straight forward to answer and, because facts don’t change, answers remain consistent regardless from whom, or where they come.  A conspiracy theory arises when the information presented as fact is over complicated, constantly evolving and inconsistent.  Some, admittedly, are simply too irrational like David Icke’s bizarre claims that the royal family are all reptilian aliens, others, however, are more plausible and often proven correct with the benefit of hindsight and the declassification of ‘top secret’ documentation.  The cases which turn out to be factual are often wrapped in many, many layers of misinformation, intentionally or otherwise.  Misinformation, or disinformation, is the conspiracy theorists worst enemy and the enemy’s best friend.

The reason I am taking the time to define conspiracy theories is because, due to the extremes of some, those with something to hide will label any theory as incredulous and its proponents as deranged lunatics, which does a disservice to the rationale of others.

The best contemporary example of a conspiracy theory, which is still evolving, is the UFO ‘cover up’ [the author makes no judgement].  Over the past 60 years the US government have issued denials of their existence and that of any official investigation into the phenomenon, followed by an admission of a limited investigation and, not forgetting Roswell, the differing explanations of the as yet still unidentified.  When the non-existent documentation was declassified the Ufologists proclaimed victory and the government invoked the ‘national security’ doctrine.  Claims and counter claims are still being made from both sides of the debate, all of which can be quite handy if you happen to be developing ever more creative ways to destroy your enemies within the realms of ‘black’ budgets and covert spying operations.  The upshot of the UFO conspiracy is just that; a conspiracy, on both sides but the purpose of this exercise is to demonstrate that the conspiracy theory is not necessarily always inaccurate just because it is labelled as such……

Appearances can be Deceptive……

Neo-conservative theory replaced ‘aspiration’ and ‘the American dream’ during the rise of communism and dictates that a common enemy will help to provide cohesion within society.  In reality it is nothing more than a modern derivative of tribalism and functions in the same way as religion, with a ‘divide and conquer’ mentality; ‘You’re either with us, or you’re with the terrorists’ as President Bush once eloquently stated.  The ‘axis of evil’ was the spin doctor’s carefully considered interpretation of Bushes rhetoric because George W. Bush thought that axis were what lumberjacks used to cut down trees.  However, it served its intended purpose, labelling entire countries and, by implication, cultures and whole religions as potential terrorists.  It is not a great leap of imagination to see the similarities with Nazi Germany when considering the ‘cultural profiling’ which took place in airports following 9/11.  It is racism dressed up to appear acceptable in the 21st century……

So who are the Enemy……

This question largely depends on who you roll with.  In answer to President Bush, personally, I am neither ‘with them’ nor ‘against them’.  I can’t tell you with any degree of certainty who the enemy are but I can tell you who they’re not.  They are not a disparate group of ex CIA funded Mujahadeem cave dwellers with the organisational skills to perpetrate one of the defining ‘terrorist’ acts of all time.  Here, once again, we need facts.

On 9/11 nineteen people may have boarded planes in the United States but as yet the US government have not provided a single shred of evidence to demonstrate that they were the primary cause of the mayhem that ensued.  Nor were they able to change the laws of physics to cause the complete destruction of the twin towers of the World Trade Centre in an hour.  You do not need to be a Nobel Prize winning physicist to grasp the basic concepts that make the collapse of WTC 1,2 & 7 impossible without substantial domestic help.

The media were central to perpetuating the 9/11 official story and, in line with conspiracy theories, the claims that the US had ‘no warnings’ were soon to be discredited as were the claims that, ‘nobody anticipated planes being used as missiles’ when details of the ‘rehearsals’ of that very scenario were made public.  Facts don’t change?  The Taliban appeared at a press conference and announced that they would obligingly hand over Bin Laden if the US provided the evidence that he was responsible.  One would assume that the exchange of documents for the most wanted man on earth was a better option than bombing deserted mountains and invading Afghanistan, unless of course an ulterior motive to start a war was needed.  When troops on the ground reached the lair of Bin Laden they found only small stores of ammunition; ammunition supplied and paid for by the CIA ten years earlier.  A far cry from the published diagrams of the multi-level mountain bases with there air purification systems, food stores, accommodation, command centres and even concealed entrances capably of driving military hardware into, all of which was later disproved but which served its place in the propaganda machine……

The denials, disinformation, spin and outright nonsense that came from the Bush regime only fuelled an already burning fire that led to the many conspiracy theories that surround 9/11.  Disentangling the fact from the fiction may well be near impossible but importantly, both exist in equal measure.

Now the combined forces of the west having displaced the ‘terrorists’ from Afghanistan we can take the word of the US & UK governments that the threat now comes from; well, most of sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, Indonesia and Asia.  Any act of terrorism is ‘thought to be linked to Al Qaeda’ and a result of their desire to stamp out Christianity, not in retaliation for the deaths of two million innocent civilians.  Another point of interest is that, prior to 9/11, most acts of terrorism were carried out in Africa and whose victims were mostly Muslims.

To identify any potential threat it is helpful to be able to pick out your enemy from a crowd.  They are generally men, women or children, live in 2/3rds of the 196 countries in the world apart from North America and Europe, unless you include domestic terrorists of course who, are most probably Muslim.

FYI – Here’s the US definition of a ‘terrorist’:  Anybody they choose……

Solutions……

After hundreds of years of justice established by the British legal system and the drafting of the US constitution in which both countries take pride.  However, should the secret services decide you are a terrorist, regardless of where you live, on the instructions of our elected representatives, you can be killed by a remotely controlled drone aircraft.  This is effectively the extra-judicial execution of civilians in any sovereign state and if you happen to in a car with your wife and children, they are considered collateral damage.

Unhelpful Media Rhetoric……

We constantly hear of the extremist fundament Islamic terrorists.  Our media do not choose to describe western opposition as fundamentalist Christian militias.  To define fundamental groups as Islamic is akin to describing male Paedophiles as ‘gay’.  A Paedophile attacks children with a sexual motive and a male Paedophile who attacks boys is not in any way to be considered ‘gay’.  They are sick individuals who attack vulnerable children, in this case boys but Paedophile is the only applicable description.  A Paedophile attacks children of any sex and making the link to gay, lesbian or straight is a misrepresentation of Paedophilia……

Political Rhetoric……

We often hear, as in Mali, that the terrorists are Islamic.  Again, this does a disservice to Islam as the terrorists may be Islamic but, so is the military dictatorship which it is engaging.  We do not get the same weight applied to ‘Christian armies’ sent in to tackle the ‘insurgents’, which is another term whose meaning has become blurred in the media.  An ‘insurgent’ according to the OED is: A citizen of a country invaded by foreign forces that up rises against the occupying power.  Ask most people on the streets of the UK and US and they will probably tell you the insurgents are terrorists.  The media rhetoric only adds fuel to an already unstable fire…..

The Continued Choice of Friendly Dictatorships……

The list of countries considered to have transparent and fair elections is 25 out of 192 or 195, depending on whose boarders and states are recognised.  Many more are considered ‘democratic’ on the basis that they have elections but the safety of these country’s elections are questionable.  There are also numerous dictatorships with which western nations are happy to enter into lucrative arms deals, with little control over there usage once deployed and many of these transactions are for crowd control measures etc……

Finally……

I have little faith in the western governments to properly control the weapons they sell to failed states which are frequently used to crack down on any opposition to policy.  It seems in the 21st century money is the defining factor in a state being able to procure the most high tech military hardware.  Once only has to look at Saudi Arabia and places like Yemen for a demonstration of just two of the states whose order books are full.  States in which women can be buried up to their necks in sand and slowly stoned to death using small stones to inflict maximum suffering.

It is high time we looked at ourselves and our contribution to highly dubious states on our order books?……
