And That About Wraps it up for God…….

27 Nov

‘You have to wonder how mankind made through the first 100,000 years of evolution before ‘God’ appeared on the scene to help us manage the next 2,000 years or so.  How did Moses and his posse make to Mount Sinai whilst raping, pillaging and murdering before ‘God’gave Moses the tablets with the instructions on them’……

If ever there was a more sadistic, twisted character in all of fiction ‘God’ takes some beating.  Hannibal Lecter makes ‘God’ look like Ronald MacDonald.

Before we explore some of ‘God’s’ wise words of wisdom lets take a look at how the confidence trick has been pulled off for so long?

It started with the establishment of authority by using the ability to perform magic tricks, giving the appearance that ‘God’ really is up there watching.  This goes back to the ancient Egyptians and Greeks who had scholars with knowledge of how the ‘Heavens’ worked.  Through years of observation they had been able to work out the patterns of Solar and Lunar eclipses.  Although, knowledge of how the ‘Heavens’ ticked goes back way further than Nicholas Copernicus and Galileo and that sort of knowledge is power when it’s blended with the ‘powers of the Gods’.  Here’s how they pulled off the trick in pre-history:

The high priests, or scientists as we now call them, would explain to the proletariat how angry the ‘Gods’ were and how they would extinguish the Sun unless the masses gave gifts to appease them.  Realising the implications of eternal darkness the masses would have brought all the gold and silver they could muster to the priests who would advise the masses that it might just be enough to appease them.  Then, right on time, ‘God’ turns off the Sun but only for a minute or two.  Phew, disaster averted.

‘God’s’ appeased, the power of the church as go betweens demonstrated, control over the uninitiated was guaranteed.  That’s why the ritual pomp and splendour of religions is so important to the maintenance of power.  Time only helps to cement their authority and the stories of what’s required to appease the ‘Gods’ passes into tradition.  Now for stage two, indoctrination.

The indoctrination of children into religion should be a crime.  It is a serious breach of trust, a child’s human rights and tantamount to child abuse.  “Give me the child and I’ll give you the man” a quote attributed to Richard Dawkins (or was it Jimmy Savile?).  Religious parents allow their children to be indoctrinated into the church and alongside the niceties of Christmas there’s the whole ‘God watches over you at all times, knows what you’re thinking and will condemn you burn in hell for eternity for committing sins’ (most of which are, coincidentally, perfectly normal human behaviours like sex and emotions like jealousy and greed, to which we are all have a natural predisposition).  And on the process goes from generation to generation and, as has been demonstrated throughout the ages, any challenge through science and logic to the absolute authority of the church can result in some very distasteful treatment by the representatives of the ‘God’ who loves each and every one of his flock……

Now for some of the Nastiness……

Here is one very simple example. On the day Moses comes down from Mount Sinai with the stone tablets containing the Ten Commandments, he discovers that the Israelites have created a golden calf. To punish the people, Moses gathers a group of men and takes the following action in the book of Exodus, Chapter 32:

‘Then he [Moses] said to them, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Each man strap a sword to his side. Go back and forth through the camp from one end to the other, each killing his brother and friend and neighbour.’  The Levites did as Moses commanded, and that day about three thousand of the people died.

So, one minute we have ‘God’ carving into stone, “Thou shalt not kill.” Then the next minute we have ‘God’ telling each man to strap a sword to his side and lay waste to thousands. Wouldn’t you expect the almighty ruler of the universe to be slightly more consistent than this? 3,000 dead people seems like a lot of commandment breaking having only just revealed it. Obviously that is a total contradiction. The reason why you find contradictions like that in the Bible is because ‘God’ is the fictitious creation of men trying to exert control over his contemporaries through stealth…….

Commandment to Murder……

If you look in the Bible, there are an amazing number of people that God wants his followers to murder. For example, in Exodus 35:2 God lays down this commandment:

‘For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it must be put to death.’

Think about that how many people work on the Sabbath — all the employees of Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy, Home Depot, Linnens & things, grocery stores, convenience stores, power plants, airlines, hospitals, emergency services and on and on and on. Don’t rabbis, priests and preachers work on the Sabbath? God wants all of them dead.

Then look at Deut 21:18-21. It says:

‘If someone has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey his father and mother, who does not heed them when they discipline him, then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his town at the gate of that place. They shall say to the elders of his town, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a glutton and a drunkard.’ Then all the men of the town shall stone him to death. So you shall purge the evil from your midst; and all Israel will hear, and be afraid.’

That is a whole lot of teenagers that we need to kill.

Then there is Leviticus 20:13:

‘If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death; their blood is upon them.’

All homosexuals need to be killed. What about this:

‘If a man commits adultery with the wife of his neighbour, both the adulterer and the adulteress shall be put to death.’

That’s a lot of people who need to be killed.

In other words, if we actually listened to what ‘God’ says, we would need to kill at least half of the people in America tomorrow. After all, Isaiah 40:8 says, “The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our ‘God’ will stand for ever.” The word of the Lord tells us to kill half of the U.S. population.

There are two things in this that show you that ‘God’ is imaginary. First there is the utter stupidity of these verses. Second, there is this fact: If ‘God’ is an all-powerful being, he would kill them himself. There would be no need for people to do the murdering. These people would already be dead, and Wal-Mart would be closed on the Sabbath through lack of employees.

Notice that believers completely ignore these parts of the Bible. That is because they know that the verses are insane. By acknowledging that their ‘God’ is insane, they prove that their ‘God’ is imaginary and cannot exist…….

The ‘Faith’ Excuse……

If you attempt to have a rational conversation with a person of ‘faith’ they’ll tell you that the stories they don’t like are parables and not to be taken literally.  So, how do they know which are literal and which are allegorical?  Their preacher tells them, so we’re straight back into the power structure that the church runs on.  Then, when they start to loose the argument, realise how silly they are beginning to look, they tell you it’s ‘faith’ that guides them……..

‘And one final thought:  If ‘God’ created the universe and put us in it for purposes unknown, who created ‘God’?  Perhaps there’s another universe created by the ‘God’ who created the ‘God’ that created our universe.  Perhaps there’s an infinite number of ‘Gods’ creating universes creating ‘Gods’ creating universes, ad infinitum…….’
