Leveson – A Dog with no Teeth

We are all Equal in the Eyes of the Law……

Only we are not.  If you happen to be a Politician, or have a big enough wallet, the equality appears to evaporate.  At least it does in the eyes of the public.  The Leveson Enquiry has provided another platform for the protagonists of the phone hacking scandal and their victims to give their version of events under oath.  Many of them have given evidence to Select Committees, made statements in the House of Commons and spoken on the record to the press.  Given such a wealth of sources upon which to draw it is perfectly clear that somebody is lying, that is of course when the collective amnesia, which appears to affect the political classes and media moguls disproportionately, isn’t invoked.  And yet the most serious charges levelled against a handful of people is Perverting the Course of Justice.  What happened to being Accessory After the Fact?  I would have thought that deleting the messages from the answer phone of a missing girl, who was later found murdered, would warrant a more serious response from the MET……

For the Record……

Aside from those who “don’t recall”, successive witnesses have given conflicting accounts of what was said and to whom.  However, ex-PM Sir John Major stated that Murdoch had told him if he did not change his policy News International newspapers would not support him in the up and coming election.  This differs completely from Murdoch’s statement that “he had never asked a Prime Minister for anything”.  Many examples of this sort of contradiction have come to light during the enquiry.  The whole remit of the enquiry is limited due to it’s purpose, which is to pass judgement on the integrity of the Press and not to weed out the lies told by our Politicians……

Another Enquiry, Another Day……

As with the Hutton Enquiry into the invasion of Iraq, whose remit was not to determine the legality or the invasion, it will only act to put time and distance between the real question of whether our political elite are corrupt.  The same thing happened with the “Expenses Scandal”, the upshot of which was to make some MP’s pay back the money they claimed illegally rather than to prosecute them for the crimes they had committed……

Jeremy Hunt MP……

Despite it being clear to all that some impropriety existed on the part of Jeremy Hunt, is not the issue Parliament has recently voted on.  Rather whether Mr Hunt should be referred to the Parliamentary Ombudsman to see if the Ministerial Code had been breached.  Mr Hunt claimed to have published all of his correspondence, text messages and emails.  When he was then found to have hidden some, he claimed not to have misled them but to have told the truth until an oversight has highlighted……

Rebekah Brookes…….

Mrs Brookes is now facing charges of Perverting the Course of Justice.  However, in 2004 she told a select committee that payments had been made to the Police for information.  This is a criminal offence.  How much more clear can it be?  Where are the Police Officers charged with supplying this information in light of Mrs Brookes’ confession?…..

Andy Coulson……

Mr Coulson was still receiving money from News International whilst in the employ of David Cameron.  An oversight on his behalf we are told.  More seriously, Mr Coulson did not have the highest security clearing enabling him to see ‘Eyes Only’ documentation and not being cleared to be present at meetings with the Joint Chiefs of Staff.  We were assured, by Politicians at Leveson that he was not privy to this information or present at meetings.  This was later contradicted by Mr Coulson on Oath……

Super Injunctions……

How does one get a Super Injunction stopping the media from even naming the party who holds it?  I don’t know but, as these injunctions are needed in a hurry and granted by the High Court, you or I would struggle to get one.  Yet another example of where money talks……

In Summary……

The ‘Justice’ system in this country operates on a variable scale.  Power appears to buy immunity and access.  Is this a legal system we should be proud of?  And finally, a prediction; if anybody is charged for phone hacking it will be the journalists who were probably acting with the knowledge of their editors.  No MP’s will face any prosecution of political sanction for their actions.  The status quo will prevail and we will continue to be run by a serf serving, power hungry, corrupt elite who are completely disconnected from the proletariat……

IT IS TIME FOR REVOLUTION AND JUSTICE……

Are you a court reporter or something, Steve? I don’t know how you stay up to date on all these things.

I had, like most average people, almost forgotten all this was still on. You are dead set right that someone deleting the phone messages of a girl’s message bank, and she is later found dead warrants DISTINCTLY more response from the law. My God, if my son went missing & I lived on the hope, that he’s been deleting his messages, at least he’s still alive… It just runs me cold, that behaviour being let go, freed to commit again. And without conscience, which is so so much worse.

    A good update.

Hi Noeleen, I’m an internet freelancer with human rights and injustice at the top of my agenda. This always seems to happen whenever the ruling classes get caught with their pants down, as it were. We have a long winded public enquiry, everybody lies through their teeth and then nothing happens. British justice at its best!!!! Just like the illegal invasion of Iraq, the shooting of John Charles de Menezez (shot 11 times in the head by SO19 after he had been restrained), the innocent bystander at a protest who was assaulted by the police then died and in all cases no charges were brought against the perpetrators and I can’t even get away with a speeding ticket!!!!! The word corruption springs to mind…… Take care. Sx…
